MAC, AAC (they have mornings but not as many as bigger teams and there is 2 hr pm practice every day), NCAP (Tyson, Marymount); DRAG.

My daughter swam for ASA, RMSC Rockville and now NCAP. ASA is disorganized and the lanes were a mess. My daughter had her arms scratched, fins pulled off, her arms twisted etc. She became fearful of practices and would just stay in the back of the lanes out of fear. There was also lots of drama and a focus on who is in which group - at the end of the day, all that matters is times!

RMSC Rockville was very organized and had extremely talented swimmers and great coaches. Nonetheless, they did kick for the first 20 minutes. I watched and could see that it wasn't a good fit for my daughter and would wind up quitting.

My daughter is now at NCAP Marymount. The practices are small and the coaches do focus on each swimmer. I can see that my daughter is improving and she has been dropping time at the meets. The environment is also nurturing and the swimmers help each other. There is no correct answer - you just need to find a team that is a good fit for your child.

Sorry you had the experience at ASA, but ours is the opposite.

It really depends on the coach, not team. We have a terrible coach who just screams at the kids on RMSC. They also really don't push the kids at all. Mine will never be a top swimmer so I don't care but the coach is what makes the difference, not the team.

For NCAP I’d recommend holding off until your kid is older. They dangle the fastest morning group spots to kids from other clubs. If you are home grown you get last priority because they know you won’t leave for a ‘lesser’ club (and they all are, comparatively and objectively — they are ranked and ncap has been tops in the area and even nationally) and they’ll give you every excuse in the book not to move your kid up, and they won’t be related to times.

It is super common for kick sets to be done right after warm up, followed by a pull set, followed by the main set. That is a pretty standard practice. PP doesn't sound to knowledgeable about swimming.

Machine at Madeira. I feel like more of the Virginia clubs offer evening nows for their top performers. This is a shift in training philosophy. Before all older swimmers were doing early mornings and now where only your National level swimmers are haveing morning practices. Like a PP stated for 98% of kids there is ZERO reason to be working out that early. They are not making Nationals or the Olympics. But for that small percentage of kids it makes sense. There is a huge difference between these two groups.
