Transplants vs DC Natives

Anonymous
I find transplants to have a very nerdy quality to them. Many of them say they have no choice, and have to be here for jobs. Not realizing that, in the United States, that excuse doesn't really fly. Because, while it may involve a pay cut or less access to power, they could easily find a related job somewhere else, like back in their (probably small) hometown, if they had to.

As such, they're kind of the "achievement oriented type", the Model U.N., Mock Trial President types.

In contrast, I find natives to be rather unimpressed with the pursuit of power, generally more laid back and less power obsessed. Maybe cause they grew up with it, but they seem much more used to the DC hierarchy of power, not desperate to climb their way up to the top.

Or can't climb their way to the top?

Or desperate about other things? Or just plain frustrated at the "newcomers"?

More like already are at the top.... already have access to the corridors of power, thus not particularly fixated on it.

lol Hilarious.

All transplants are nerds in high school who couldn't get laid, and are desperate for power, prestige and wealth.

All natives are cool, old monied sophisticates descended from DC's most privileged, elite, and powerful core families, and completely unimpressed with everything, because their ancestral blood runs through this city.

This thread is reading like a really, really bad soap opera.

Honestly, this is one of the silliest threads I've ever read on this board. Even "Three chicken legs and a whole lot of fries" is more informative . . .

Welcome to D.C.! "But surely the locals must be all knowing, and owe nothing to transplants." LOLZ at that idea. Hint: Transplants could not care less about the locals and their inflated, distorted sense of self.

Maybe the locals could "just leave" and free up the shit shacks for the transplants to build new.

I think the reverse is true as well. You'll leave eventually anyway.

x2. Why should natives care about the people who are barely a blip on the radar?

Thanks!

I'm a native - grew up in Alexandria but came into the city all the time, school field trips and family outings as a kid and then as a teen going to RFK for the annual HFStival, getting first fake id at a video store on Georgetown near Commander Salamander, first piercing at jinx proof, using fake id at Trax and Buzz before Nats Park was around...

My native experience is vastly different than some of those monied, legacy folks. I think the transplants have helped DC improve - some argue against gentrification and its effects but I like how nice DC is - no more murder capital and crack epidemic
