I have not idea how this will work out and am just throwing the thought into the pot. But, a lot of the kids attending Harvard, Yale, etc. are the global oligarchic elite. They are wealthy and are from the powerful parts of their respective societies. But, I don't know how many of them are actually that smart and/or have a lot of intellectual drive or what their work ethics might be like. A lot of them are also beneficiaries of gains from corruption and so may lose all they have fairly quickly. The point being that they may not be the Nobels, Pulitzers, Gates, etc. of the future. Those may start to be produced by the kids who are graduating from the non-top 20/50 or whatever. Will be interesting to see.

Because that is what happened when the Brittish universities became the destination schools for international elites. Oxford alone has educated over 30 heads of state, while still staying near the top of the Nobel league tables. 1,000 year slow decline.

Tufts 'ranks' 27 on the US News. Not that's the primary reason DC is looking at Tufts. Its academics are impressive and has been added for fall applications.

Go Jumbos!

Completely agree. I have a DS there who has lived on campus 3 years. The building has been nonstop for 14 years (which can have its downsides if you are living on campus). GMU is rated No. 1 in up and coming universities. The facilities are fantastic and new. Yet another new dorm was opened just last week making GMU on the of the largest residential colleges in VA. http://patch.com/virginia/fairfaxcity/gmu-unveils-new-19-million-dorm-new-school-year-begins. The legislature is pouring money into the place and it shows. If you haven't been on campus in some definitely definitely tour. The professional schools are real up and comers too. I receive the GMU job posting list every day and am amazed at how fast GMU is growing just in the 3 years we've had a student on campus. I've sat in on some of the classes during the summer and have been very impressed with the faculty. The big surprise is that DS has not yet had one huge class with the TA experience that one hears one will experience at a University. Class sizes have ranged from 5 to 25 max. If your child is into tech, engineering or computer sciences definitely check it out along with GMU's job placement stats.

And Belmont in Nashville. Dd just started, we had never heard of it. Ranked as one of top 5 up and coming southern schools. Absolutely amazing and beautiful. She is going for business degree in singer/songwriting. Pretty impressive program.
