HGC letters

I would never inquire either. I'm surprised when people ask.

What about asking a question on a local listserv about the program and signing your name?

For a very small number of children, since unsurprisingly few parents turn down the invitation. I know one child who was accepted from the waitlist. A few years later, she rejected from middle school magnets. Magnets have an even lower acceptance rate.

Do all kids who don't get accepted get put into the wait pool? Or is the wait pool an actual category, separate from a "rejected" group? I had assumed the former (we got a wait-pool letter for our child).

It's an actual category.

Does anyone know if theres a way of getting more data about what your kid got right/wrong? I don't actually care about her going to the school, but I am concerned that the scores don't reflect what her teachers have always said about her performance. I'm worried there's something going on other than just disappointing scores, and would like more data.

I would assume the applicants have to meet the standard to be "HG" for wait pool. So when open spots are available, they may be selected.

Rejected means -- even if open spots are available -- they will not be considered.

Is there information available re what the verbal section entailed? My kid was wait-listed (which is fine with us, she didn't want to leave her ES anyway), but her verbal was significantly over the median, and I'm wondering what that means. I know she's a strong reader but surely they were testing more than that. I can talk to her teacher about it, but would teachers know test specifics if they weren't the ones giving the tests (or be allowed to discuss anything if they were)?

Or maybe I should just wait and read the detailed comments and grades on her report card. (Ha. Ha. Ha.)

Are all HGC classes filled to 28 slots? Or possibly 29 next school year? If someone drops out mid-year is the spot filled from the waitlist?

The best source of information for what was on the test is your DC. From what a remember, it is analogies, complete the sentence, but no eeading comprehension. The vocab is not too difficult. MAPR is probably a better indicator of actual classroom performance.
