Why is Janney getting another million dollar renovation……

And there's also car registration/insurance fraud. There are people who have their cars registered in MD, but live in DC.

Indeed. But isn't that exactly what Janney families are proposing...tighter boundaries....FOR DEAL MS?!?!

It will be interesting to hear the Janney arguments to justify keeping their elementary boundaries the same while shrinking Deal boundaries based on geography.

Let's hear it.

It's kind of like the way Hearst parents complain that the Janney renovation steals resources from other schools, but don't seem to think that non-DC students steal resources from other students.

Hearst is currently mid-renovation (and I do not think Hearst parents are complaining here)

Oyster had a brand new building within the last 15 years I believe, maybe the middle school portion is advocating for a renovation?

I am completely unaware of where Eaton is in the need/line for renovation so cannot comment. I know Stoddert has a recent great renovation.

Separately, I do not know where the allegations that Janney parents are advocating for narrowing Deal's boundaries comes from. Are people just throwing crap at the wall hoping something sticks?

I also don't think Hearst parents are complaining! At hears there are many who are not!!

I find the misperceptions surrounding Hearst almost comical. It's one of the reasons our class sizes remain small. I almost hesitate to dispel the myths. If people really knew what a great little school we had they might stop ignoring us.

I am a very active parent at Hearst with kids in a couple of different classes. I personally don't know of have heard of any families who are suspected of living in MD. There may be a few (as there may be in any given DC school) however, certainly not on the level asserted on these boards. I do know of several kids with grands and aunts/uncles in MD who do pick up and drop off-- including mine. The person perpetuating this residency fraud issue is not a Hearst parent. They are apparently someone from the neighborhood who has a thorn in their a** over our OOB population.

As for the Janney parent that doesn't want her children at Hearst because of its OOB population... that's fine. We hope you're able to stay where you are.

Hearst families are proud of our little school. Our community is made up of incredibly committed IB and OOB families who appreciate the school's diversity and who work hard to create the best educational environment for all of our children--just like Janney parents.

And by the way, Hearst parents are not complaining about Janney's additional funding. We're halfway through our renovations and our funds for completion have already been allocated. We have no dog in this fight.

So yes, there is someone out there throwing crap on the wall to see what sticks.

+1 Thank you posting something reasonable!

I may have missed it, but I don't think Janney parents are opposed to changing schools because of the OOB percentages. I think they are opposed because their kids currently attend and are well acclimated to a great school. Hearst may well also be great, if I were house hunting right now with pre elementary school kids I would certainly check it out. Once you are part of a successful community it is destabilizing to think of moving. I know part of my goal is to have a cohesive path through school for my children where they feel a part of the community.

The boundary commission has said that grandfathering is a ground rule.

This idea is coming from another post, when a person who was clearly IB for Janney now was concerned about redistricting in the future (their kid was only 3 or something) and felt that her only real alternative was private.

It's because there is no eye candy at Janney.

I thought they agreed that Toe Shoe Dad qualified as some sort of candy.
