| I couldn't read at all in K, and by the end 1st I could read the first Little House book. For me, the turning point was the word "something," it seemed like such a huge word, and when I realized I could read it I felt pretty sure I could read almost anything. |

To answer the thread question. My kid in kindergarten will probably solidly end at level R or S and has an incredible spoken vocabulary. Called me "mundane" just this morning. This was an interesting thread. I do agree that life experience helps in comprehension as I noticed this as well. And I agree with the school psychologist, I expect my kid to not stagnate while others catch up. Some parents on this thread are proud of their children and that is okay. Good luck to you all with advanced readers. My only advice is to keep challenging them and let them pick their own books.
