add Eaton to that list. |
Key and Mann |
Murch is on that list also |
Its quickly becoming clear that few west of park Elementary schools have been renovated in the last 5 years.
I think its only Janney and Stoddert. |

So what do people think of DCPS' proposal to create a 6th – 12th Middle School Magnet and College Prep HS - a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Citywide Application School with 380 seats for middle school students?
|
What does the "talented" label mean in these programs?
Most of these kids are socially awkward and their mothers are into overboard bragging. |
It depends. Is this the proposed MS to share space with McKinley Tech HS in NE (Ward 5)? Because that wouldn't be a draw for our family. |
Just curious, why wouldn't it draw your family? |
It wouldn't be a draw for my family either ( np here). It's too far away from us and in the wrong general direction of ~12th and Penn.
Now. Putting it in -Hardy- That is a fine idea. Seriously, wouldn't it make the most sense to locate the accelerated program where the huge majority of the accelerated students live, according to every test that's ever been administered? (NAEP, DC CAS and so on?) |
Reasons not to put it in Hardy: 1. what would happen to the middle school that is already there? Isn't it fairly full? Where would Hardy-feeder school students matriculate to? 2. Hardy is not centrally located so not a great area for a city-wide application school. 3. McKinley has loads of space available and it is already a STEM-focused school. that said, the reason I don't like seeing it co-located in McKinley is because I don't like the idea of the middle schoolers and high schoolers going to school together. If DCPS can show me how that would work, I might be interested. |
I haven't heard of this proposal. Is it serious? Where can one find out about it? Would admissions be by exam, lottery or what? I can't see lottery admissions working well with this type of program, can you?

As a parent of young kid and not knowing DCPS very well, I’d like to hear if there has been any improvement 13 years later. Thanks! |
