They left off the most interesting parts of the book (basically the gothic haunting elements after Cathy dies) and seemed to miss the point of it all.
It's just a generic bodice ripper with some wild sex stuff thrown in to try to start conversation. Even ignoring it as an adaptation it's just kind of boring. Pretty to look at but dull and with nothing interesting to say. |

Guess I am an outer because I saw it this weekend and loved it.
It might have helped that I’ve heard some of the mixed reviews and so had managed my expectations going in, but thought the cinematography was stunning, soundtrack is amazing, the performances were really good and i loved the chemistry between Margot and Jacob. Another English literature major here and also I’ve read the book twice. So I get why people feel like it departed from the book but also you can’t do the book justice in two hours so I liked what they chose to focus on. |
