That wasn’t me, didn’t have a kid this last cycle, but I’ve said it and it’s not one of those. Reason being people are just vicious on here and sometimes less is more. If they attended Duke or Hopkins I wouldn’t say either, I’d just say T10. I only use it as a general selectivity term which is what I think people are generally trying to gauge. |
np: I do the same. |
14.
Into 9, rejected from 4. |
Any more than 10 seems absurd - how could these kids even know if they like that many schools. We applied to 10 and honestly that was to many...there were easily 3-4 that I don't think my son would have ever gone to. |
That's the point but in practice it doesn't seem to work that well. It's hard to make a genuine and persuasive case for a particular school if you're applying to 20+. A lot of kids who do that end up getting into no reaches. And getting rejected from that many is very demoralizing. To be rejected from three reaches is kind of like, oh well, but there's a psychic cost to opening 20 rejections. |
My kid did not apply to single safety. Applied to 10 matches and 2 reaches. Never know what happens when applying to a bunch of schools with 40-60% acceptance rates. We also needed some merit. |
Doesn't seem that way from what I see. Maybe your kid just wasn't a strong applicant? Probably the major. |
I mean, my kid didn't even visit 10. Of course, they were going to apply to 20. Why shoot yourself in the foot intentionally before the goal line? |
Did you not read the comments? People explained they apply to 20 because (1) results are unpredictable - they don’t have good Naviance data, and (2) they’re looking the best financial package/merit. So, actually, for many people it makes quite a bit of sense to apply to 20. |
Yes, dc will likely apply to 16-17 bc test optional and we just have no idea how things will go. |
2021 - 7 applications, 3 acceptances, 4 rejects, graduated from a T25 this year
2025 - 8 applications, 4 acceptances, 2 WL, 2 rejections, attending a T25 |
2025- 9 applications and she was accepted to 3 schools before receiving ED acceptance. Could have saved about $400 if we waited until after finding out about the ED decision. However, since it is a top 25 school, we were playing the odds. |
