Can we FINALLY put to rest the idea most Americans want MAGA?

+1. A not-remotely-progressive, non-college-educated woman I know who is paying off her kids’ hospital bills on a monthly basis and will continue for the next decade recently said to me, “I used to be so opposed to universal healthcare, but now I’m like ‘Bring it on, because it can’t be worse than what we have now.’”

When she said that, I knew, “It’s time.”

+1 eventually our whole economy will be based on expensive healthcare (the industry will be our biggest employer); housing mortgage/banking and insurance industries will also prevail. And those with extra funds for education will pay for it. The rest will go to underfunded public schools. Smaller businesses that cater to the middle class will suffer people there don’t be much discretionary income to support them. Someone has to help keep movie theaters, coffee and cream shops, boutiques, etc. in business.

Unless we like that situation, being slaves to corporations that drain our last few dollars out of us (pay up if you want to live) we will need universal healthcare as well as a housing market and university system that doesn’t turn citizens into indentured servants (and with AI monitoring us, that’s where we’re headed).

Trump’s goals are 1) stay out of jail 2) grift as much money as possible 3) receive adulation 4) play golf. To achieve these, he’ll tell people whatever they want to hear. I don’t believe he has any deep core principles. He’s a blank slate onto which MAGA projects their own fears and desires, and which his advisors use to advance their own darker agenda.

I agree that the Democrats should move more center but, building on your point, Americans don't want want the GOP/MAGA is selling either. They need to move more center as well. The Democrats will win in 2026 and 2028 as the political pendulum naturally swings.

The center doesn’t necessarily mean status quo, incremental change at the margins though. It actually might mean bold proposals that make life better for people in the center of the bell curve.

But the democrat way to “make life better” is to increase things the government provides. Free this, free that, etc. I think most people don’t want to see a bunch of social programs ran by the government (at the expense of those that pay taxes).

The function of government is to provide services and programs that individuals can’t provide on their own. I’m happy to pay taxes so we can have national parks and accurate weather forecasting. The majority of Americans like Social Security and Medicare. Do you want the full burden of caring for your elderly parents for 20+ years?

I have a crazy idea.

I know that it seems nuts, but what if we tax all of the hyper rich in an appropriate manner? We could tax wealth and income at a much higher rate and still probably be way lower than most 1st world countries, then use that money to benefit Americans.

If you did that, the hyper rich would pack up and leave and take their job-creating businesses with them. Jeez….having to read how Libs think about economics is painful and sad.

Put down the Ayn Rand and pick up an economics textbook. The real job creators in this country are consumers. Job creation still hasn’t returned to the level of the early Carter years, despite forty years of tax cuts and the hyper-rich accumulating enormous amounts of wealth and economic power. They haven’t invested their capital in a way that validates this narrative.

As Gordon Gekko said, “I create nothing. I own.”

Mind you, I’m not opposed to breaking things. I’d break our corporate shareholder-prioritizated healthcare system and replace it with Medicare for All in faster than you can say “our formulary no longer covers that.” But this corrupt, ignorant, mendacious, taxpayer-funded free-for-all? Massive overreach.

Of course. You democrats invite in 10 million people with no background checks, but Trump deporting 100,000 criminals is overreach. Uh huh.

F your party "ethics".

Why do MAGAs use emojis every time they post? Is it because they don’t know how to spell? Or they don’t understand how to convey their thoughts without using them? Or are they more immature than my teen (who never uses them)? All of the above? They are such unserious people.

Naw. It’s been heavily suggested by Elon himself that they hacked the computers and stole the election.

Most of the American people would love (and vote for) more free and subsidized benefits. The problem is they find the values, tone, and demeanor of the D’s to be largely distasteful.

All Democrats would have to do is (1) promise said free and subsidized benefits (2) nominate a candidate who is dull and respectable and (3) SOMEhow put a lid on their crazies. The R’s will generally shoot themselves in the foot on their own.

#3 is nearly impossible at this point. If it can’t be managed, say hello to President Vance in a few years.

Democrats are absolutely blind to the way the general public sees day to day matters (and these recent protests are an EXCELLENT example of that) and it is why they lose elections. Not only do D’s not understand this, but they are actually patting themselves on the back. LOL. Just completely clueless. So, so clueless.

Were there a lot of protestors who previously voted for Trump just last Nov? Otherwise what's the basis to say the election doesn't reflect what we are as a country / what people wanted?

Plenty may not be MAGA by whatever definition but are basically "okay" with it as they voted for it it did not vote. Sorry nothing else matters.

How do you explain the liberals' use of name-calling words like "moron" frequently in their posts?

Ummm… the people who voted for him actually DO want MAGA. actually. They may not love every trump policy but overall they do approve. Even if they are negatively impacted which is the irony

He overreached. Look at his poll #s

Context is everything. His numbers are way higher than democrat numbers.

Which is why the GOP and reasonable Trump voters should be furious with him. He had a chance to actually do some things that could make a real and meaningful difference in people’s lives. That’s not what he prioritized.

You still don’t get it so you? This IS what we voted for.

You voted for masked stormtoopers snatching people off the streets?

Lovely.

They also voted for having their personal data including bank account numbers taken by individuals - some with questionable backgrounds- representing a private entity.

See, here is a winning issue for team D. Now watch them run away from it for the next decade.

I, a sometimes Republican-voting college-educated woman, can 100% stand behind some form of universal healthcare...but it needs to be a phased in approach....and apply to US Citizens and Green Card Holders.
