Well they are probably getting a discount on it. |
My DC went OOS state to Berkeley and had enough AP credits so he could double major and graduate in 3 years. Plus rhe investment club prepared him for internship interviews and hs landed amazing summer internships which paid for almost most of tuition (in his case it $45k). Overall, he loved his experience and we dont regret it one bit. |
PP is living in a time warp. Wait until they regale you with the number of parking spaces reserved for dearly departed Nobel laureates on the Cal campus! Come in from the cold, old timer. Cal hasn't been top o’ the heap for quite some time now. |
Which investment club and which major? |
Well the Elliott School has about double the number of classes, more renowned professors and former senior officials and diplomats, and better career services and connections to DC jobs for starters. |
+1 hard to turn it down. |
Math and Econ major and club is Capital Investments at Berkeley. Its a pretty competitive club but they do a great job of preparing kids for interviews and has short courses taught by students which my kid found to be very useful. |
https://www.ciberkeley.com/education here is link to the courses which are taught at the club, it is pretty amazing. |
| UT Austin Turning Scholar. - definitely worth it. Was able to get in state tuition second year and graduating early with AP credits. |
And UMD is a top 50 school, top 25 stem school |
Exactly! However, I would say it can never be "worth it" if you don't already have the $$$$$$ for OOS saved or are so rich that cash flowing it is literally nothing. It's not needed to go into massive debt to do that |
DP: My youngest (also my most academic) knew they wanted engineering, and specifically Chem Engineering. Approaching senior year and hasn't waivered any. But They are the type we knew it would be some type of STEM/Engineering no matter what (Kid's first class they had to "study for at all" was AP Calc BC---not for AB, AP Chem/AP Bio/AP Physics Mechanics, etc) And yes, we let them pick the best school for them (not the cheapest either by $42K/year) |
You say that as if other state universities in Maryland don't even exist. |
? says who? |
| $240K+ for four years is a lot to spend on something if you won't get a decent ROI, unless you have a ton of money. |
