I lowkey aspire to look this high status (White Lotus Reference)

I find it hard to believe high waisted anything is still so popular.
I constantly see young women in huge ill fitting jeans and crop tops and they don’t realize how dumb it looks.

No one cares. You don’t get an award because your version of aspirational is different from someone else’s.

Agree - the point is to have a little fun, and these people are so threatened! And like, if you have to say it….

I think the country horse/dog/old money people are being facetious? I hope? Like just playing with the DCUM trope of everyone wanting to look like they've been rich forever and feeling terrified of being caught not having generational wealth.

I had assumed they were trying to be playful and make jokes too. Why else would they read and post on the beauty forum?

That post didn’t seem out of place to me. Op said she aspired to that WL look and PP responded that she aspired to the British queen galoshes and dog look. I mean, isn’t the point of this thread for people to share silly fashion aspirations (rather than to comment on which of the three stars has the best plastic surgery)? We’re a little all over the map here so I think dog lady is fine.

DP. Because it was snarky. In that "I'm not like other girls" and "old money people would NEVER" way that tends to pop up any time a traditionally feminine woman is praised for her looks.

+1

And it is usually coming from a woman who is defensive because she isn't going to get praised for her looks. Or she does, but is so attention-seeking that she can't stand it when another woman is getting the attention.

Haha me too!

Then go start a thread for people who aspire to look like Queen Camilla

They're poseur wannabes who lie to themselves that they can successfully fake looking old money in a mid-tier suburb sh**shack driving a 2010 Volvo. It's comical.

While they argue with women who think dying and highlighting actually make you look blonde and that spending $200 on skin tight stretchy clothes makes you look healthy. Plus carrying a gigantic overpriced water holder everywhere.

I know Stanleys are over but there are still some lines in this skit that hit hard.

I think those women look miserable and insecure. Like Ms. Franke’s.

I know nothing about the show and only barely skimmed these 10 pages of posts. But seems to me that you’re falling right into the cringey moneymaking trap they’ve set for you.

From the WP article:

Why would a show that compels us to loathe these characters push us to dress like them? Of course, nothing comes into this world anymore without an attendant selection of merch. There is never enough money to be made. And the aspirational ploys of the show are so obvious it’s almost beyond comment — the resorts at which the show films become outrageously popular following their appearance on the show, despite the fact that they are all stage sets for notorious deaths. In real life, can you imagine a murder inspiring people to visit a hotel?

But perhaps this is White’s ultimate grimace-grin reveal. Victoria’s Banana Republic dress, marked down from $150 to $39.97, sold out almost immediately after fans identified it.

We hate the rich — and there is no one we would rather look like.

Out with the Birkenstock Crew.

Huh? They all look the same.

You’re not the target audience.

I just got an email from Halsbrook this AM about getting the White Lotus look. But they seemed to be talking about flowing floral dresses not leggings and sports bras.

Me again. Got an ad for BR for the same thing. Don’t think it’s spandex. But I guess OP is not the only one.

First of all, they are all actresses, not real people. Even their characters on the show are actresses. Secondly anyone can get an outfit like this for under $50 at Old Navy. So...?

Why aren't we talking about how boring this season is? I don't think I'll be able to devote another hour to it. It's so slow and boring.
