Free busses for everyone including those who don't even live here plus we are paying for public school busses AND the "free" city busses that the kids now use for school. This and we get to drive by the tent people in Linconia by duke st. And I agree with the PP about the insane utilities. $120 a month for ONE bathroom for just the water and sewer bill! I don't have 5 toilets! I have one! The comcast monopoly, $220 a month for cable and internet (basic cable). It's a NOPE all the way around.

You lose a lot of credibility for your whole post when you complain about Comcast as a problem with the city.

Especially since Ting fiber internet has been here for over a year.

Has anyone on here tried Ting? They did a good job getting the word out but haven't heard one way or the other about whether it's good.

I haven't heard good things about Ting's internet reliability. Which tracks, considering how awful their installation planning was.

We switched from Comcast to Verizion FIOS (above ground) and haven't had any issues at all. It's also nearly half the price of Ting.

Verizion FIOS is NOT available to MOST city residents yet not until at least 2026!

Nearly a 20 year resident here and not one thing the PP said was untrue. If you know anyone who lived here before Ting arrived last year, the Comcast complaint among residents was pretty common.

I can’t see how you would link that issue with credibility unless your day job involves Comcast PR department. Truly odd.

Do you remember when you could get from one side of the city to the next in 15 minutes or so? Now it's 45 minutes or more say from old town to the west end. Those were the days.

Do you remember when crime wasn't a thing? Where your bike or property didn't get stolen or your car broken into?

Remember when it was quaint? Livable and more affordable?

When utilities weren't through the roof?

Never forget..

AMEN! Going to the grocery store is an event now. Over a hour to grab a few small things! Need gas and food? Plan on 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours at least in "off" times too. It's just too much time, stress and chaos running basic errands now.

Huh? If you live in Old Town, it takes 5-10 minutes. Just hop on your bike or walk down the street to Trader Joes, Harris Teeter, Safeway, Balduccis, Whole Foods...

You are an idiot. No one is scared of Alexandria becoming more desirable than Arlington. You don't know what you speak of, leave the room.

Struck a chord, huh?

Get out of your MONA bubble. The wealthy boomer class find Alexandria much more desirable than Arlington. Do you want to live in Turnbury Towers and look into the wall of an empty office building and walk to Chopt for brunch or do you want not have a sweeping river view and your choice of good restaurants.

Huh? Since when did Alexandria have "good restaurants."

Anything in old town close to the waterfront is overpriced and either a tourist trap, generic bar/grill, or stuck in the 1970s. Adas, Mias, Volas, Blackwall Hitch, Chart House, Virtue, Fish Market, the Wharf, Landini Brothers, etc. are all terrible 2 star restaurants. The restaurants further up King street or down the side streets are mostly much of the same. Fontaine, 1787, all the sushi places, all the thai/noodle/asian places (Thai Signature is ok), the beer garden (when you're not just swilling ale), all the "upscale" restaurants like Josephine, Magnolia, etc. All bad. Same with the coffee. Misha's is quaint but the coffee really isn't that good and doesn't compare to any 3rd wave stores elsewhere. Tatte is fine but it's Tatte and is now everywhere. Everything else tastes like my grandpa's can of folgers from the 50s. Del Ray is even worse than old town, with less options and only one or two places that are ok. The rest of Alexandria city is slim pickings.

I guess food in Alexandria City is fine if you have the palate of a boomer, but compare it to Arlington and Fairfax County where the ethnic options such as Korean, Thai, Chinese, Afghani, Indian etc. are plentiful, fine dining options are more sophisticated, and everything is just less expensive.

You’re doing it wrong. I’m so sad for you.

No kidding. Bet this glass bowl has never wandered off King St.

99% of this thread has never stepped a foot off king st.

Weird. We switched over summer 2022. When it's available, I'd absolutely recommend switching to Verizon - no complaints here.

Ting's construction in Del Ray has been a major PITA. Not necessarily the construction itself, but the "no parking signs" making everyone move their cars, and then never showing up to do the work, removing the signs, rescheduling, rinse and repeat.

And they would put up signs for many streets at the same time, so you'd often have to park several streets away.... only to realize that Ting's scheduling person screwed up, again. And again an again and again. Most of my neighbors were so put off by their constant screwups that no one dares to make the switch.

Pretty sure pp is the angry harpy that's still mad her ex left her like a decade ago, and started a new life with someone in Del Ray. She's a regular in the anti-Alexandria threads.

What are you smoking? Alexandria is over saturated with grocery stores with many of the same chain within 1-2 miles of one another. You make zero sense. Put down the drugs.
