Japan had one the great street food cultures of the world

The posters point is that Japanese people do not walk and eat. Which IS true. It's a huge cultural norm in Japan. While their is street food in Japan, you do not.walk around and eat it. It is a major faux pas.

But waking and eating is not an American thing. Chinese people, Thais, Vietnamese, and Indonesians give zero craps about that. It is not an American thing to walk and eat at all.

One unique trait about Americans is we are very self-critical. Having travelled abroad a fair amount, I’ve realized we are not so bad. Every country has people who are rude, greedy, pushy, loud, overweight and so on.

Americans are generally friendly, polite, curious, open minded and try their best to enjoy other cultures.

Incessant need to be on the move and "doing" stuff. No ability to slow down and just hang out because, you know, we are on a schedule and have to see EVERYTHING. Also, comfortable but shapeless clothes paired with comfortable but ugly shoes. In addition, Americans need to bring at least one nicer outfit if they plan to dine at nicer restaurants--just one outfit! Don't go out for an expensive dinner in hiking clothes.

Asians are not the only other people out there. Americans of all races are very aesthetically pleasing. I think the mutt nature mixed genes of so many people really brings out the best.

I think people are getting confused thinking everyone saying American means white. And that's not true at all. But in general when I travel abroad I come home and think how good everyone looks comparatively. Across the spectrum. And maybe its the more friendly open nature that makes people look better. But you also don't see a lot of bumps, moles, disfigurations, and other things. Americans tend to look well cared for and despite all the complaints about our healthcare system people seem healthier.

I went to MX, and not the Cancun part of MX. There was a bus load of Americans, and they were overweight and not "cosmetically" put together.

Go to any beach/lake in the south or midwest of the US. You will see what I mean.

The average American is overweight, size 16 to 18, and spends too much time in the sun without sunscreen or a hat.

The same can be said of a lot of countries. Go to the Cornish coast and you’ll see the same type of Brit

It's interesting you bring up a Brit since I'm married to one, and we go to the UK often, just this past summer, as a matter of fact, to Cornwall.

Yes, of course, there are overweight people in every country. As a matter of fact, my Brit spouse has relatives who are bordering on obese. But the average American is heavier than the average Brit. Also, you forget that many Americans are of British ancestry, so their build is very similar.

But you can still tell the difference even if they have a similar build or weight. Generally, Americans will have bigger whiter teeth and Brits will be paler. Brits will generally gave different haircuts and different style of clothes (American women more likely to have big styled hair, wear bright colours and more make up; British men more likely to have close cut hair and possibly slightly funkier clothes rather than conventional polo neck and khakis, few baseball caps). I can generally spot a 'conventional' American a mile away. Clearly, not everyone fits that stereotype.

Americans who travel to Europe tend to be UMC, and they tend to be more well put together.

Pick UMC Europeans and compare to average Americans, and those Europeans look a lot better. But that would be an apples to orange comparison.

Oh please. Have you ever seen the feet of foreign visitors when they come to NYC? They wear sneakers. Backpacks. Comfortable clothes. (Ugly jean shorts!) Sight seeing and traveling is exhausting. People try to look their best considering but this isn’t a fashion show. I will say that the Americans I saw abroad all looked good.

Because all the above applies to many if not most Europeans. See the separate thread about sneakers in Europe (yep, most Europeans wear sneakers too). People are wearing shorts everywhere when the weather warms up, both Americans and Europeans. A lot of Europeans wear cheap and sloppy clothes too.
