So the app is paying me not to tip! What a deterrent!

Are they not being delivered because you offered no tip?

No, it gets delivered, it just takes a little longer sometimes.

I do my own grocery shopping and takeout. I don’t get fleeced by rising service fees and there’s no pressure to tip for subpar service. Problem solved.

I say good for the PP. Having someone do your grocery shopping each week amounts to either laziness, entitlement, or a mix of both.

Just ordered Uber eats and thought of the rude op on this thread, when I didn’t tip.

Time is money, baby. Sorry your time is worth so little, broke joke.

I don’t know what you’re making on jobs or how many times you filled your tank or if you’re struggling to feed your kids or what. All I see is the insane marked up price on the page (and it’s enough to send me to the store myself). People are assuming you are making enough money at this job because your employer is taking a huge markup. If they are not passing that on to you then that’s a problem between them and you, not a stranger for not knowing and not tipping enough.

Tip culture has gotten so out of hand people are asking for 20% at a 100% self service market. What started as a nice thing to do to support food places during COVID has turned into expected for every single service transaction involving food. Yeah, maybe I’m cheap for not adding on an extra $5 for nothing, but that adds up over every single transaction and I’m not a billionaire. The person who is cheap is your employer- take it up with them. Make them charge a price that fairly covers the cost of labor instead of making everyone else guess and do it for them. Or go work somewhere else where you can be more fairly paid.

Delivery people in the gig economy are not employees. Want a service, pay for it.

My Uber eats order was $48, over $12 in fees. No tip!

You wouldn’t believe the number of people who don’t tip ever for this SERVICE.

I could go on and on about not leaving lights on in the dark and not having a properly marked address either on the house, curb or mailbox. Not only does it make your food late, it also could be life threatening!

Whenever I order, I input $0 for tip. If you choose to pick up my order, that’s on you. I told you in advance there was no tip.

So you’re either poor or cheap. Which is it?

Poor and cheap. Minimum wage in California is over $15 and we voted to pay for your benefits. That was passed on to us, not your employer, so that’s your tip. I don’t get healthcare with my job, but I’m paying yours.

I’ll set my own hours and know never to deliver to cheapskates like you!

I hear this argument all the time, but I live in LA, have never tipped, and always get mg orders on time. I get monthly credits from Amex and Chase, so I order weekly from doordash, instacart, Uber eats, and Walmart+. Never tip, never an issue with my order! If you don’t like it, get a job working in a store. If tip was required, it would be part of the bill, it’s optional, so my option is no tip.

this is sociopathic really. You make people go to your home and refuse to pay for the service. Amazing you aren't banned, especially from Uber Eats and Instacart

Here’s what you don’t get bud. We ARE paying for the service. All those service fees. Tipping is optional. Not our problem!

OK, so my elderly, disabled parents-who tip well-are lazy and entitled. Not unable to physically get around the store, or needing to eat ever...

I work for myself when I want. I don’t have to bid for vacation time. I can grind out for two months and take a month off.

Actually that’s not true. In California we voted to make them employees and pay them benefits. Now we have huge service fees. That’s why I don’t tip. I’m already paying for you to get benefits.

Not really. All of those services carry their own large fee on top of the actual stuff you ordered. Usually called a delivery fee! So users are paying for the delivery, they are apparently just expected to pay twice.

What I don’t get is why a doordasher should get a percentage of my order as a tip. What if I bought some very expensive items but not many of them? Is it harder work for them to pick up an expensive item than many cheap items? If tipping is required it should be based on number of items or some other metric but not value of items.

Thank you! That’s what I meant, yes.
