I think folks will make the move, though I’m wondering if younger siblings will be able to be pupil placed.

I think the schools implementing the cluster method are schools just adding LLIV and so the kids have already been moving to the Center so it doesn't matter to the Base School or the Center.

Not at Shrevewood. Switched from years of LLIV to cluster model. Lots of families planning to leave after this year where their children have basically been Guinea pigs.

He doesn't even see it coming....

It sounds like a good number of families gave it a shot.

A significant number of students are leaving Cub Run's LLIV for the center at Poplar Tree next year, in all grades. Their local level program/clustering has not gone well and parents are speaking with their feet.

Younger siblings who move to the center are put in gen ed. Personally, being gen ed in a center and not having any neighborhood friends in the class is not an experience that I'd want for my kid

The problem is that when your older child finishes at the center, your younger child gets kicked out unless they are in AAP.

"lots of families" - I know of exactly two families in my child's grade that are leaving for the center. Everyone else is fine with how things went this year (with the exception of some teacher-related issues, not curriculum).

There is one PP here is very anti-Shrevewood. I am pretty sure I know exactly who they are, too. Sorrynotsorry your kid not well-liked, I hope they will do better at LR.

I don't think you're aware of all the positive feedback he HAS received. A lot of families are thrilled to see the super competitive parents & kids leave the school. My son actually expressed relief when he found out one girl is leaving for a different school.

Different school but DS was happy that one of the kids was leaving his base school with a cluster program for the Center school. The chatter among his friend group was that it was great to see the kid going because he was obnoxious. We have been happy with the program our school runs but we are in a LI program with a solid Advanced Math program. The few kids who have left have been more disruptive in the classroom so their departure calmed things down a lot.

DS has passed Advanced on every SOL and is doing great. I am glad that there are options for the other folks to use mainly because it, selfishly, decreases the head count on DS class and seems to have removed more of the kids who are a problem in the classroom. I hope they are happy at the Center school and that they find a better fit for their kids there.

That sounds like Level III. Pull outs in areas of strength and the option to do accelerated math.

Not necessarily...It depends if there is space and the principal. Also 5th graders are automatically eligible to finish out 6th grade. What you do get kicked out of is the bus. You either have to drive your kid or request an exception to ride the AAP bus if it comes through your neighborhood, if there is space. That can take a while, so either way, you are driving them there and back for the first month.

I think part of the problem at Cub Run is there aren't enough students in LLIV to make a true "cluster." Who knows if they would implement it better with a critical mass of LLIV students.

Our school clusters but they have all the kids in Advanced Math in one class, which effectively becomes LLIV. It has been a good fit for my kid.

I'm a Shrevewood parent of a general education child and everyone I've talked to who has a child that is not AAP and about half of the people I've talked to who have children that were previously LLIV are happy with the changes at the school. Which leaves you with maybe 7 or 8 families per grade (1/10 of the school's population) that are unhappy that their kids aren't in a special class. If I were the principal, I'd be aiming to please 90% of the population, rather than the teeny tiny 10%, wouldn't you?

From what I have heard there are A LOT of rising third graders going to the center next year. It will leave just a few Level IV there in third grade next year. I am not sure how they will handle advanced math.
