JFC. What, precisely, do you think "open container" means? |
+1. If I had to spend any appreciable time with OP, I might bring heroin. |
Soda and juice? Yuck |
She could mix them together and make herself a Shirley Temple! And she could sit in the corner and sip it like a good girl, nice and polite. |
|
You've given your SIL no choice but to drink water, whatever the kids are drinking, or bring her own alcoholic beverage.
It sounds like my family, ha. I'm surprised she didn't bring to thermoses OP. |
| Of course I would BYO where the hosts know full well I don't drink what they serve and refuse to be hospitable and serve what they know I prefer. I can't imagine my in-laws treating me so rudely nor would I snub a guest in my home that way. The SIL is just doing what she needs to survive a BBQ with what sound like awful in-laws who don't care about making her comfortable or welcome and want to control what she drinks. They are lucky she's a good sport and comes at all, even with a thermos in tow. |
| Anyone else been craving a gin and tonic with lots of lime since reading this discussion? My mouth is literally watering lol. Need to pick up some Hendrick’s. |
Lmao! |
Yes!! |
I made one for myself last night after reading this thread. It was delicious. Better than wine or beer. |
|
I agree if she brings it to soccer games and PTA meetings, I’d be worried.
In her place, I would probably just bring a small bottle of gin and tonic water and lime and say “I brought stuff for G&t if anyone wants!” That seems slightly more normal even if no one else will drink. I do that with desserts with relatives that make gross desserts. |
And no headache! |
This. Not weird at all if she’s going to a party to enjoy herself, hang out all afternoon, and knows the hosts aren’t going to bother to have something on hand that she can drink. Good for her for taking matters into her own hands and bring something she can enjoy with the rest of the group. |
LOL. I wouldn't bring that but I get your point. I'm completely on the SILs side on this one.
|
DP. Agreed. And I can't imagine how fun it would be to whip out my bottle of gin and get snubbed even more to my face, knowing I added more fuel to the fire of this fandango. No, I'll be as unobtrusive as possible with my little thermos, and just mark the hours until we leave. Sometimes you have to do hard things. |
