Where are the top unhooked kids at your Big3 going this year (not legacy, URM or sports recruit).

Still coasting on your high school achievements are we? I guess if that’s where you peaked that’s where you peaked.

Sounds like an admission.

I need to know where the bottom unhooked kids are going, not the top.

Elon, smu, tcu, sewanee, muhlenburgh, American, trinity, Syracuse. Not bad schools at all! These are full pay. Kids who need aide or instate are doing JMU, UMBC, CNU, or small liberal arts colleges like Juanita, Wooster etc.

If this is the best insult you can come up with, what sport did you play in college?

Anyone have any data on 10 year south which schools grads are holding down real jobs and building careers?

Interesting. I guess my 11th grader must be at the bottom of the class at their Big3 because the college counselor recently recommended almost every school on this list: Elon, SMU, TCU, Syracuse, Sewanee, Muhlenburg, Trinity. Unfortunately, my DC isn’t really thrilled about any of these schools. Really wishing we sent DC to public. 34 ACT and 3.1 GPA.

If you are under the impression that these are not good schools and that graduates from the 4000+ universities that are not in the top 20 do not have lucrative careers, you are a part of the illness that is causing this generation of children to suffer from anxiety, depression, and other deadly mental illnesses in record numbers.

Several of these are great schools. I know several very successful and happy graduates of SMU, Syracuse, Trinity etc… Don’t feel badly the college counselors just want to make sure they have a few definite places to get into. Keep looking in that range you’ll find something besides they’re just suggestions from the counselors and your child can apply anywhere they would like to.

Add a few higher ranked schools in the West for geographic diversity. In the age of test optional, private school low GPAs are just not going to help. Also, even if it isn't what your kid wants right now, throw in a big flagship. When the dust settles, it might start to look really good or at least pad the ego.

Just curious but what did you expect with a 3.1 gpa? Not that those schools are bad - but how high were your expectations?

Honestly, I don’t know what I expected! Maybe Tulane, Miami, Bucknell, Colby? DCUM says that is where the bottom 25% of the big 3 go? The GPA is an upward trend (3 Cs in 9th) so probably a bit higher at the end of the year and by end of senior year.

I'm confused. Those are great schools that wouldn't be accessible at all to a public school kid with similar stats.

Our neighbors kids went to some of those listed schools. Still don’t have a fulltime job, just drift around. Now 28 toss

One went to Brandeis and does comp science, but she went to Whitman.

Is DC a girl? Because unfortunately, the odds are much better for boys at schools below the tippy top tier.
Also, are you able to commit to early decision? Again, odds are much better if you don't need to rely on merit aid.
