Really? I know of at least 30 kids from the grade who got in to their ED's. How is that a disaster?

Most kids who took the most challenge math and science courses didn't get in to their ED/EA.

what schools did they unsuccessfully apply to for EA/ED

It’s incredible that they would pretend to know which schools all of 60 kids have applied to and which they have been accepted to.

huh?
-It's all posted on social media by kids as soon as the results are out. Then they update their instagram heading: "Duke '26" or whatever. My kid in in 9th grade at a different Big3 and she and all her friends talk about where the seniors they know (and don't know) got in and where they didn't.
Granted, this is a bit nuts for a 9th grader to be thinking about but that is another conversation.
-also it sounds like the kids this poster is referring to is a group of about 15 in the highest math/science track and not a school-wide group of 60. Those 15 definitely know who got in and who did not get in.

If you are stalking teenagers social media, then you are a creep. However, the idea that every kid is posting this to social media is a lie. Kids are moving away from social media platforms in favor of group messages anyway.

PP also says, “parents are up in arms”. How would they know that as well from stalking social media. How would they know what the parents of this group of 15 or whatever are thinking?

Not everyone posts on social media like this at Sidwell. There was an Instagram with about 1/2 of that grade's college destination a few years ago - that wasn't until the end of the school year and I have never seen one since (but I may just not know what they named it). I know my kid wouldn't be posting all over social media for an EA/ED outcome and my kid would definitely not report it to us (parents) where others were applying/accepted/rejected. It's considered in poor taste in that friend group. (and in life!)

That's been our experience with our Sidwell senior as well, who did get in ED but is not blasting it over social media. Our kid will also only talk to us about a very small number of their good friends. There is a senior class instagram that has been set up this year but it is a private group and I doubt any parents are members or will be allowed in, and I doubt any kids have or will post ED results anyway (my kid has not). In that group that would be seen as bad form I think.

It’s definitely poor form in that kind of environment because it can be seen as insensitive. Everyone is stressed out about it and eventually everyone will know where everyone is going. However, the play-by-play gets saved for family and close friends.

No one’s posts that at all. Schools have policies too

One has a 5% admit rate and the other one a 8% chance of admission.

How do you know this? Where are the figures from?

Well that’s also false. Kids often post about and congratulate their friends, and some kids do put it in their insta bio as a pp stated. And in the spring pretty much every senior class will have an insta about where kids are going, but how heavily it is used is an open question as another pp stated. But there are no school policies about talking on social media about where you are going to college or congratulating your friends on social media.

The week EDs came out there were dozens of snap chats and Instagram stories posted by kids about where they and their friends got in. mostly congratulatory posts from other kids. My kids are underclassmen but were reading them off at dinner. They know all the older kids from sports (both are on a varsity roster), etc.

Why? I don’t get why this group would not do well at ED vs the other kids?

Because they are going against TJ/Blair/Poolesville kids who have been coding Python since 6th.

No. Because of relatively lower unweight GPA as compared to the the students who took the less challenge courses. Sidwell's Math 1-4 is much difficult than the next level math. The students who couldn't perform Math 3 would switch to AP Calculus. The Most comparison is within the school, and is irrelevant to the other schools.

For example the students who switch to AP calculus can easily get A in AP calculus but would get C if staying in Math 3. Only very few students in Math 3 can get solid A.
