Treatment at Walter Reed?

Anonymous
I believe we're eligible for infertility treatment at Walter Reed hospital (via DH's military service) and wondering if anyone on this board has pursued treatment there. If you have, would you recommend it? Thanks in advance.

I haven't been treated at Walter Reed, but I like their head RE, who works weekends at Dominion and whom I was told will be moving over to Dominion when he is done at Walter Reed. He has a good bedside manner, the nurses like and respect him, and he has good clinical skills (he did my egg retrieval). I don't know what his diagnostic skills are or what the lab at Walter Reed is like.

Thanks PP, good to know!

I don't know specifics, but I have two friends that have been there. One has done one round of IVF (not successful) and had a really good experience there (except that parking sucks!). The other just did the initial work up and found that nothing is wrong. She was also happy with the experience.

PP here,
One more thing. I'm pretty sure you only pay for the actual cost of the injections if you do IVF, not all the extras so it ends up being relatively very cheap.

Thank you!

We ended up choosing to adopt but when we considered them, we heard only really good things about the clinic and I know a few people successful - give it a try - you don't like it, then pay out of pocket/try somewhere else.

My BFF cycled there while I was cycling at Shady Grove.

She did 2 rounds of IVF. They only do their cycles in groups and if I remember correctly, their IVF cycles are only done twice a year. You cycle with a group, basically.

I think for IVF she paid $4400 and that included meds. She had TONS of leftover meds too which I was totally thankful for (I'm 100% cash pay OOP)

Her cycles were done a lot differently at WRAMC than what I did at SGFC but I think she's planning on going back there for baby#2.

My experience is a couple of years old, but we ended up going to Dominion Fertility after two unsuccessful rounds of ivf at WR. I think the quality of the lab made the difference, but I liked the RE at WR (Dr Peyson) who also works at DF.

DF does offer a military discount which helped us with the cost.

I didn't have a good experience with WR or any military doctors, in my opinion you get what you pay for! We did several cycles of IUI and IVF only to find an undiagnosed problem that could only be treated using a gestational carrier. We are currently pursuing adoption.
