| For DH birthday dinner. Price doesn't matter but I don't want to eat at one of the K-street "expense account" type places. Thinking little italy in Baltimore but does anyone have any recommendations for places in NoVa or DC? TIA |

What about Il Canale in Georgetown? I've had good experiences there.

| Pines of Rome in Bethesda. |
| Palena in Cleveland Park. Awesome food, and great for a special occasion. Ask for table 31. |
| Dante's in Great Falls. |
| Tosca is the best food, though you may consider it "expense account". Sorriso in Cleveland Park is also vey good Italian. But, hands down, you can't beat Obelisk. |

Tiramisu in Dupont Circle is fabulous. Amazing pastas as well as fresh seafood. They have an excellent wine list as well....really nice Barolos.
The place is refined but cozy with a lovely fireplace. The ambiance can't be beat. I had a birthday party there a few years back. It is small but they do an excellent job with larger parties. |
Love the food at Pines but it's a "hole in the wall" kind of ambiance. I wouldn't want a birthday dinner here. |
| Pines of Rome is more Italian-American. Obelisk is great for a birthday. hurry up and call, though! |
| The brand-new Casa Nonna on Connecticut Avenue is very good. Have the caprese salad! |
| I've always liked Luigi's on 19th St. NW. Not fancy, but the food's always been good. |

You may not be impressed by the area - but this place is about as authentic as you can get - http://www.pastaplusrestaurant.com/
And I come from a home where we made homemade pasta each week and wine yearly. |
Another vote. Small, amazing food, great service. And yes ... the Barolos are divine. |
| Siroc, Bibiana, Carmine's. |
