IVF injections, retrieval then complications

My best friend had been doing injections for the standard period of time. Had an extreme amount of follicles (47) retrieved on Halloween. Monday and Tuesday felt fine and by Wednesday took a turn for the worse and has been in the hospital since. In a 4 day period she gained 38 lbs of fluid weight and lastnight was being laid flat for a ct scan and stopped breathing. Apparently this happens to 1% of people. Has anyone ever heard of this? I am really worried about her and am pretty much freaking out.

sounds like a severe case of hyper stimulation! Is she young and have PCOS?

Yes exactly! Young with PCOS how did you know that

Not the PP but young and PCOS are risk factors and the typical profile of someone who gets severe OHSS (ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome). I had it. I hope your friend is ok.
