Ads with automatic sound?

Anonymous
Hi Jeff,
Is it possible to not use ads with sound? You have one ad recently that plays this terrible jingo/squaredance-type music, including "yee-haw!" that not only is driving me crazy, but is going to get me busted for reading dcum at work. You can turn the sound off, but only after you find the offending ad and click on it each and every time it pops up. Thanks.

Do you know which ad that is? I can block the advertiser. I haven't encountered it myself.

It's for an online game site of some kind - has a cowboy visual theme. Next time it pops up I'll respond again here and let you know. MANY thanks.

Just encountered the Yee-haw play now! (frontierville/zynga.com) and congratulations you won (didn't see any sponsorship info on it, just a click here type of thing) sound ads today.

Can you tell me where the ad was located? In the forums, there are five slots: top banner, upper and lower left skyscrapers, upper and lower right skyscrapers. Since I'm using two ad networks, the location will let me know which ad network is running the ad. I still haven't seen it myself.

15:25 here. I think the Yee-haw play now! ad was lower left and the congratulations you won ad was on the lower right side of the page.

Smileyface "Congratulations" just scared the beejesus out of me- upper right.

Can't you all just keep the sound muted on the your computer? That's what I do, then I just turn it on when I actually need it.

Agree the ads are annoying.

If the ads with sounds are in both upper and lower slots, it means that they are running on both ad networks. That means it will be harder to block them. But, I'll do what I can.

I just went through 15 pages of ads that one of our ad networks is running and I couldn't find any of the ads described here. Can someone please find out exactly who the advertiser is the next time you see one? I couldn't find frontierville or zynga.com, so that must be on the other network which I will check next.

Have you considered adding the Adblock extension to your browser?

Just saw this ad on the lower left side.

Yee-haw ad on the lower left. Does this have anything to do with the type of browser I'm using?
