Recommendations for mortgage broker and/or real estate agent

We've been renting a house near downtown Silver Spring for a couple of years and are now looking around for a house to buy near where we are currently living. I'm looking for recommendations for a buyer's agent who could help us, and also for a mortgage broker to get pre-approved.

Also, there is a house on our block that has been vacant for years and has just gone on the market in "as is" condition. We love our neighbors and the location, but neither of us is handy and part of me thinks we would be crazy to take this on with a small child. But we wouldn't have to live in the house while we did at least the initial phase of work, and it seems like a good value.
