Do you have a hobby? What is your hobby?

Anonymous
I have just recently realized that I haven't had a hobby in a long time.... I spend most of my day working for my career, taking care of all the household stuff, raising a 7-year-old son, loving a husband. I don't do anything for myself. Not a one thing. I read school documents and bills...no romance novels. I surf online to find best camps, not to shop for a dress or a purse. I am trying to force myself to find something that I can do to enjoy myself, just for me. Do you have a hobby? What is your hobby? How do you make time to enjoy your hobby?

What did you like to do when you were a kid? I have found that I most enjoy doing all the things I loved as a kid...drawing and dancing. I pushed them aside in college and in my 20s...but since I turned 30 two years ago, I made it my goal to get back to doing what I love. It is very fulfilling to live what you love. If that question draws a blank, do some research...there are a bunch of events on this site, community classes on craigslist from cooking, pottery, training for marathons, creative writing, you name it! Try a bunch of new things and see what strikes a chord in you.

As far as finding time...where there's a will there's a way. I squeeze in my hobbies at lunch, after the kids go to bed, weekend workshops every now and then. I'm going to the Sahara tomorrow for a belly bachata workshop. I love it.

#1 is I love to garden. Have a big veggie garden and strive to make all kinds of edible spots in my yard.

#2 I read-a lot.

#3 this one is kind of pathetic...I'm obsessed with my house and home improvements always making changes and updates.

I have many right now and I am happiest ever!

Gardening
Taking short walks w/ kids or by myself or w/ a co-worker each day
Cooking (daily)
Therapist (want to work on myself, just started)
Zumba

Plan to take a class or 2 this summer in gardening and maybe get back to photography. Very excited about having this part back in my life...2 kids in 4 years has been hard but almost back to myself again :=)

Would like to try yoga or swimming next...really don't want to over do it.

Good luck and have fun!

My main hobby is running. I run 5 days a week. When I have time, I also do yoga and swim. I did triathlons before having DD - I'd like to get back into that one day but training for all three events is just too time consuming with a child and I don't want to do another unless I'm going to do well.

I believe hobbies come from an inner passion or "bliss" - what do you love to do? What makes you happy? Not your kids, not your husband, but you? For me, it's yoga, pilates, attending mass, and painting. Try journaling for a few weeks and see if that lead anywhere. Good luck in your exploration!

OP here.... come to think of it...I don't know what I enjoy to do for ME. I enjoy what I have become, wife, mother, a working woman. So, I am now realizing that I have made "those things and tasks (as a wife, mother, and a working woman) as my hobbies. If those tasks are gone out of me, then, I have nothing to do. WOW. This realization is scary. Oh, here is one thing. I do like interior decoration, and I often change stuff around the house. But that's kind of an expensive hobby to have.....Oh well.

Too funny! If it makes you feel better, I'm a SAHM right now, for at least one more year. I have very little time for myself. Your post made me laugh because my previous hobbies were golf (especially golf weekends at resorts), skiing at least 20 days a season (each trip involved plane tickets and vacation days from work), interior design (I actually took classes at the Corcoran and lots of trips up to NY - I think it was the d&C building?), wine trips to Sonoma and AUSTRALIA, etc etc.

Oh well. Maybe I'll do these things again someday...I LOVE my life right now and wouldn't give it up for anything, but should probably come up with some easier and cheaper hobbies!

Good luck to you!
