I will put this in folksy terms understandable by the tea bagger mama grizzlies. You are out in the woods. You brought your gun but forgot the ammo. You're not coming back with a deer.
You could have taken the Senate but you screwed it up. In two years the reality of the tea partiers will set in as they will no longer be a movement but must be a part of government. I know how this plays out. I remember the Contract with America and how they sold out. It's going to be the same thing again. They say they will cut spending, but not for social security, Medicare, or defense. --in other words most of government. They will cling to the charade of closing the gap by cutting waste, fraud, and abuse. But that won't do the job. They claim to want government to get out of people's lives but cannot resist voting straight party line on a host of social issues that are the opposite of limited government. Before you know it, they will be getting contributions from big corporations and planning for lucrative careers after government. A democrat can at least own what they are. They believe that government should spend money to help people. Tea Partiers (maybe rand paul excepted) are hypocrites. They just don't know it yet. |
To be fair the Tea Party enthusiasm probably won them IL-Sen, PA-Sen, and WI-Sen.
It lost them NV-Sen, DE-Sen, and AK-Sen (although the latter was the result of Murkowski throwing a tantrum.) ND-Sen, AR-Sen, and IN-Sen were probably flipping under any circumstance. You're right in that anyone who proposes reducing the role of government in our lives and who wishes to outlaw gay marriage (*) and won't touch Medicare, Social Security, or Medicaid (**) is a hypocrite. (*) FWIW, I am a believer in the Consistent Life Ethic. (**) Proposing ideas such as privatization doesn't count. That's the "let them eat cake" way out. |
