Infertility Support and Discussion
| I'm an IVF patient who thinks it's time to get a second opinion, just to cover my bases. I have partial insurance coverage for IVF. Anyone have luck getting the consultation paid by insurance? |
| FWIW, I have BCBS PPO through a private employer, and it has covered all 6 of my consults even though I have no coverage for treatment. |
| If you have coverage for IF diagnostics or for IVF cycles, then second opinions should be covered. Call your insurer to confirm the coverage and also whether the doctor you will be seeing is covered under your plan. |

I have IVF coverage, and when I went for a 2nd opinion consult, I had to pay a portion toward my deductible (so it was like $125 instead of my normal $40 specialist copay, which is what I paid when I went for my initial consultation with the first clinic).
Depending on where you're going, they should be able to tell you approximately what it will be. (I have been to SG and Dominion and in both cases, I gave them my insurance info in advance and they contacted the insurance and then got back to me and told me how much the consultation would be.) |
