In the same spirit as the prior question - what would you tell your child regarding why you are a Republican? I, myself, am a Democrat, but I am curious as to the response of the Republicans regarding why they vote the way they do. |
Because I believe that if you work hard, you should be able to keep the majority of your money and you shouldn't be ridiculed for making money. Because I believe you don't look to the government to fix your problems..if that means you have to take a lesser job or live more simply..so be it. Because I believe unions are ruining this country and they by and large..are democrats. Because I believe that if I drop dead that half my wealth should not be confiscated..it should be able to pass to whomever I choose. Because I believe that if I choose to go into a field where markets do not support a high wage..I shouldn't ask other people to help me out. I am also tired of taking god out of everything and the overall political correctness..except if you are a christian.. That kind of stuff.. |
The details are complicated, since this is a complicated world, but the basic reasons are simple, and what you might expect: that the first priority of government is to ensure the physical security of its citizens, and this requires an aggressive approach to both national security and crime control; that while regulation is necessary, individuals should be free as much as possible to chart their own course and absent some check the government will grow out of control in terms of both regulation and bureaucracy; that while some taxation is necessary to fund true public goods, it should be limited to compelling purposes; that redistribution of wealth, as such, is not a legitimate role of government and creates perverse economic incentives; that our society works reasonably well due to a complex set of cultural factors that have evolved over time and that no one fully understands, so that it is rational to err on the side of traditionalism in light of that uncertainty. |
Because I work with the public sector and I see first hand that the government is full of incompetence, sloth, inefficiencies, and waste. I think it feels good to think government can solve your problems, but in practice a government solution is a failure. Government is filled with 2 kinds of people 1. LAZY people who are not worth 1/10th of their salary, whom it is IMPOSSIBLE to fire and 2. people who are building mini-kingdoms by hoarding dollars and wielding their power by spending (and of course at retirement, parlaying that power into a grossly overpaid contracting job because of the ability to influence those at the top).
I benefit financially from the "use it or lose it" culture off spending, but I can't help, but think of how WRONG and detrimental that is to our nation and a waste of people's hard earned tax dollars. I sleep at night, knowing my tax dollars are just being recycled back into my pocket. I do see the irony in that I’m suckling off the tit that I loathe. I would like to support feel good programs, but the government should not even be trusted to run an ice cream stand. |
I am tired of all the "entitlement" programs.
When the government gets involved, it is scary. Taxes continually seem to go up under democratic regime There are no need for unions anymore, God Bless America |
I read something earlier today that not only made me laugh but pretty much summed up my feelings. A Republican and a Democrat are walking down the street when they run into a homeless man. The Republican stops and talks to the man, gives him his business card and $20. The Republican tells the man to call come in and see him about a job and that the money will help get him through. The two men then continue on their walk. They run into another homeless man. The Democrat, not wanting to be outdone, takes the Republican's wallet and gives the homeless man $50 and walks off.
I am socially liberal but fiscally conservative. I never vote along party lines but with the issues I feel are important. |
But you trust them to spend billions of dollars on weapons of mass destruction? |
God bless america!!! |
About at much as I trust other countries and crazies to spend billions of dollars on weapons. The world is what it is. Confilct, the race to dominate finite resources, and survival instinct will always be. |
A Republican who bases his world-view on Darwin rather than the Bible! |
The problem with Dems and this way of thinking is that they simplify and understimate Rs a nd Tea Partiers. You dems think of republicans as being a homogenous group of right-wingers when actually MOST republicans I know hold more libertarian views. But keep up the ingnorance and stereotypes, they irony is nothing short of classic! Your way of thinking does nothing, but cause gridlock and divides a nation that actually needs action and not school yard bickering and name calling. |
I was the one whose comment you responded to. I think you should reread mine, which said "a Republican", and read your own, which complains that "you dems" are guilty of generalizing. Now tell me which of us is the generalizer. Or better yet, since I probably did have a tacit implication that lots of Republicans are more influenced by the Bible than by science, let's agree not to generalize in the future and drop the argument about past transgressions. |
Wow, I don't want to live in a world like that. but I don't want to work my ass off so someone else who is fully capable of working can stay home and watch tv all day. The system is broke. Both parties have failed. |
" I am also tired of taking god out of everything "
LOL! |
