HPT question

Is it more likely to have a false negative or a false positive?

Also, if I'm *really* hoping I'm preggo, how would that impact the test? I've read about hysterical pregnancies, just want to ensure I'm not going off the deep end

False positives are very rare -- much more rare than false negatives. I think false positives happen only when the relevant chemical is in your system for some other reason, like a trigger shot for IVF. But even that leaves your system within a week or so.

Not to freak you out but sometimes people have an early BFP that turns to a negative during the first week as the result of a chemical pregnancy or possibly (rarely) an ectopic. I've had a few of those. That said, if you see a BFP, it's almost certainly a step in the right direction. Good luck!

No positive's yet, just negatives. My period last month was a week late, and much lighter than usual, this month it's 3 days late and counting. Last month I took a HPT that was negative, haven't taken one yet this month. Would almost rather the possibility of being pregnant than to see the negative...
