How many embryos with IVF

Anonymous
How many was the most you ever got with egg retrieval and how many eventually became embryos? Just trying to get an idea what is normal.

This varies so much with your age and diagnosis. We were primarily male factor - one cycle I got 14 eggs, all fertlized with ICSI, we transferred one blast and froze two blasts, cycle was negative.

Second cycle I got 10 eggs, all fertilized with ICSI, we transferred two day 3 embryos, none were left to freeze and I had a singleton.

It is funny, I always seem to get the same number of embryos no matter how many are retrieved.

IVF#1 - 17 ret., 16 mature, 8 fertilized
IVF#2 - 15 ret., all mature, 8 fertilized
IVF#3 - 9 ret., all mature, 7 fertilized
IVF#4 - 8 ret., all mature, 6 fertilized

We are also MFI.

My numbers are a little unusual, but I had 29 eggs, 28 mature, all fertilized and 9 made it to 5 day blasts. We ended up freezing everything because I was experiencing borderline OHSS (and had a history of it with my first pregnancy).

Wow, reading that people go through multiple IVFs to have a child due to a male factor is really discouraging. We also have male fertility issues and now I am not even sure an IVF will help us (we went through 2 unsuccessful natural IVFs).

I had 30 eggs, 23 mature, 17 fertilized, but only 2 made it to day 5. I got both embryos transferred, since my RE expected that one of them will not make it. My twins are now 10 months old.

Dx: Endometriosis / 29 yrs old

Retrieved 13 eggs / 12 were mature and fertilized
Had 5 make it to blast - transferred one and got a BFP

3 ret., 2 mature, 1 fertilized.

We ended up with twins and the sense that nothing in the world is predictable.

Male factor, we were both 30.
Cycle #1, BFN, 6 retrieved, 5 fertilized ICSI, 3 were decent at 3 days, 3 day transfer of all 3. Normally my RE would not transfer 3 for a healthy woman my age but I get the sense he didn't like the quality and didn't think they'd work.

Cycle #2: 8 retrieved, 7 fertilized. Day 3 transfer of 2; froze 5. Much better quality this time. Both embryos implanted initially but one was a vanishing twin. The other "embryo" is now 2 years old.

male factor
age 31 16 eggs, 9 embryos, 4 blasts---2 became our twins, 2 "perfect" blasts frozen
age 33 FET of those 2 perfect blasts---negative
age 34 9 eggs, 5 embryos, only 1 REALLY crummy looking blast left at 5 days---singleton. Realized that this IVF thing is a crapshoot.
