False Positive after IVF?

Anonymous
Please help - would love any insight here. First cycle of IVF. I had retrieval on the Oct 19th after triggering with Lupron on the 17th. On the 19th at retrieval I received a 1500 IU of HCG. Now am on day 8 post 5 day transfer. Tested yesterday with HPT and it was positive, test today was positive too (I know, it's outta control). Am trying not to get my hopes up because I understand that hcg can linger in your system for several days. Wish I hadn't used the HPT but I was feeling so down. Now I'm worried that I have a false positive. I know that's what I get for doing the HPT thing. It's been 13 days since the HCG shot and the amount injected wasn't that significant. Could this be a false positive?

Nope, not a false positive. You're pregnant.

Your hCG from a shot should have been out of your system within a week. So looks like you are pregnant. Congratulations!!

Maybe you can call and get your beta early? They might wag their fingers at you for testing early (although I completely know/understand why you did!) but there is of course a chance of a chemical pregnancy and it would be a bummer to get your hopes high for too long, Just In case.
But... it sounds likecongrats are in order!

Oh- and if your RE is strict about early betas, perhaps ask your GYN?

Sounds like you are pregnant. I got my first BFP at 6dp5dt

your'e pregnant!
trigger is for sure out of your system by now.
i had "true" positives and "true negatives" (different cycles) by 5dp5dt

I agree with the above. I think it's been long enough since the trigger for this BFP is for real! Good luck!!

Thanks all! I really appreciate your responses. You've given me hope and some peace of mind (kinda losing it for a while). Keeping my fingers crossed for the beta this Friday. Again, thank you!!!

I'm worried about the same thing. Had two positive hpts but no real early pregnancy symptoms.... Just occasional breast soreness that comes and goes. And a little cramping too, but I associate that with the progesterone I'm taking. Worried about a false positive or chemical pregnancy. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Beta is the 4th.

How long ago was your trigger shot? Assuming it's out of your system by now, two postitive HPTs is really great news -- congratulations!!

Don't worry about the lack of pregnancy symptoms. Many people don't have them in the beginning and some don't ever get them. FWIW, mine didn't start showing up until about 6-8 weeks along with my first pregnancy, and then it was just a lack of appetite (not nausea) and some random insomnia . With the second pregnancy I was on progesterone and definitely had some cramping, discharge and mood swings. But those symptoms started as soon as I started taking the progesterone, which was at least a week before implantation.
