Federal Vision Insurance Plan - is it worth it?

Anonymous
Federal Open season is almost here, and I'm wondering if I will bother to continue my vision insurance plan. The plan covers either one box of contact lenses (for each eye) or new frames (if you pick the cheapest option) and new lenses (again, the cheapest option) for glasses each year. The reason I'm wondering about signing up again is that after my annual visit, I always seem to walk out of office with a couple hundred dollars in expenses, and I'm wondering what benefit I'm actually receiving. I am probably just ignorant of how the supplemental plans like vision work - can anyone provide further insight?
Thanks!

I just did the math re: how much the premiums would cost and how much $ benefit I would get from the plan. I decided it wasn't worth it for me. Another option is to put money (or more money) in your flex plan - but I know some of the rules for that changed with the new health care bill so I'd check to make sure contacts and glasses are still covered expenses.
