Who is really to blame for the tax cuts possibly expiring? Is it the Dems who refuse to "debate" the tax cuts or the Republicans for refusing to allow the tax cuts for the wealthy to expire. I feel like I am so lost in this debate. If you can point me in the direction of any articles or websites that will help me understand what is going on here I'd appreciate it. |

That's all I could find. |
It's going to get fixed. The Republicans don't want to say they are going to give in before the election. But let's face it, they won't have the numbers to get the whole enchilada, and they aren't going to screw the vast majority of people to defend the rich. |
cut spending back to 2008 levels. |
government is unable to tighten its belt. everybody makes less and is tightening their belt and buying less and eating out less. the government is a bunch of pussied whp are terrified of competing, cutting and working for less like the private sector. well the numbers dont lie,,,the money is gone...and their aren't enough rich to tax ...the ponzi scheme is coming to an end....it's gonna get ugly. |
You can't compare government to the private sector...at all. They are two completely different things with different purposes. |
The poster didn't ask about spending. She asked about the tax cuts. Boehner said about a month ago that he'd basically pass the middle class tax cut legislation i they couldn't get the part for the wealthy. Then he had to backtrack, but that's what's going to happen post-election. |
I don't think anyone knows what's going to happen because the left wing Dems won't vote the tax cut if it includes the rich and the right wing Rs won't vote for it if it doesn't include the rich.
Probably it won't get extended and the R's will be happy because they'll use it to blame the Dems without having to take responsibility for dramatically increasing the deficit. |
That will get the Republicans the votes of the rich, but the Dems will say they fought for tax cuts for the rest of us, and will get our votes. Who comes out with more votes? |
This is what the next speaker of the house said on Face the Nation in September: http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/dpps/news/boehner-says-tax-cut-compromise-possible-dpgonc-km-20100912_9607034 http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2010/0912/Did-John-Boehner-blink-on-tax-cuts-for-the-rich Afterward, his party came down on him like a ton of bricks. But because he was wrong? No. This is what's going to happen. Boehner knows it. He just shouldn't have said it before the election. |
Just like Nancy Pelosi doesn't have much control over what the Blue Dogs will do, Boehner doesn't have much control of what the wingnuts will do. |
But the Senate will offer legislation on the middle class tax cuts, and the wingnuts in both houses won't be able to justify voting it down in the name of protecting rich people. They will probably put up a bill in the house, but it won't pass the senate and they can't override a veto. So Boehner isn't promising anything so much as describing what is inevitable. |
