| People on the other thread are posting about different aftercare options in MOCO. Can anyone tell me about options in PG County -- specifically in the College Park/Hyattsville/University Park/Cheverly area? |
| Depending on how old your kids are, University Park Elementary has before and after care and people seem to love it. I'm not sure about the other public elementary schools. You might try the Greenwood School also. It's a day care center but they have preschool and kindergarten too. Not sure if they take kids just for after care though, but it couldn't hurt to ask. |

Ugh this is basically non-existent, very frustrating and there is not a lot of support for working parents in this county. I've found that you are pretty much on your own and a lot of the ones that I've seen are pretty much holding tanks. There is a huge waiting list for the aftercare at UPES. We were number 11 and I have 2 kids so I have them in a private home after school. There is also a parent at UPES who picks kids up at the school and cares for them at her home but for 2 kids it was going to be $20 an hour and that just wasn't going to happen.
The cheapest way is to advertise for a college student to provide aftercare in your home and even then, plan on spending $10 per hour. Some other suggestions - check the Parks & Rec program www.pgparks.org - College Park community center has an aftercare program for the students from the school next to it, Shalom School in Hyattsville picks up at area schools but you would want to visit to see if it is the right fit for your child. They seemed wonderful at first but then asked us to leave without giving us only a weekend to find alternative care since they could not handle the discipline issues from my son who has ADHD. I found out later from another parent that one of the caregivers spent most of the time just screaming at him. I also visited a karate afterschool program near REI in College Park and was pretty horrified. It was actually depressing knowing that for some parents, this was their only choice. Hope you have better luck than I did. |

I use a UMD college student and pay $14 per hour. With all the days that schools are closed, I like having a sitter familiar with my child in case I have to go in to work.

Hello All-
Does anyone know of a aftercare program that picks up the kids from public schools in district heights. |
| There is nothing and I mean nothing reasonably priced in the Camp Springs area. My grandson goes to Princeton, they do not offer before/aftercare on site. So I guess our search continues.... |
Impulse City is AWESOME. |
