Project Runway Season Finale

I didn't watch last night, but just read the winner was Gretchen. Really? Was her show that good?

What did you think?

It was lovely.

BTW, was I the only one who thought that Jessica Simpson looked like a linebacker? Was it her dress, or was she just sitting too closely to Heidi?

really?!? I didn't like a lot of her designs.

You're kidding me. Mondo didn't win? And Gretchen did? How is that even possible? Her 3 piece mini-collection in the next to last episode was AWFUL. Truly, truly hideous, and she never should have been in the final to begin with. I thought Mondo had it in the bag, with Andy in with an outside chance, but I guess I overlooked the fact that they loved Gretchen, despite all but about 3 of her looks during the season being HORRIBLE.

I really liked Mondo. His use of color and pattern is fresh and unique.

Gretchen's collection was awful. As was her attitude for the run of show. Mondo's was awesome and very wearable.

And I'm pretty sure Jessica Simpson had just come from the dentist and the gas was wearing off or something. She seemed both drowsy and confused.

I couldn't believe it. She sent at least three oversized diapers down the runway and all Michael Kors said was "well, she needed to show some leg". Most of her stuff looked very similar-- I swear watching her models go by I thought she had sent the same model twice.

Basically Michael and Nina said they were voting for her because they thought her stuff was more wearable and her "comfy" looks is "where fashion is going" whereas Heidi and Jessica preferred Mondo because it was more exciting but still wearable. Seemed to boil down to Nina and Michael didn't like Mondo's polka dot dress and were offended that he kept it in the show, while Heidi and Jessica did like the dress and said they would gladly wear it.

They wrote off Andy early on some weird thing that it didn't look "enough" like his earlier stuff. I actually liked his stuff better than Gretchen's (although I always find it a little odd when their favorite design is one that got thrown together after the designer got to NY).

Call me crazy, but I think they knew from the get-go this season who they were going to pick. Gretchen was their initial favorite and I think they got wind of her beeyotchy attitude and decided to mess with her mind. Just the same way I think they played Michael. I do think he had some good designs and got waaay too much grief from the other contestants, but in some ways I swear the judges picked him as challenge winner because of it. I suspected Gretchen would win since they had made comments about some of her boring stuff as being marketable and off the rack ready.

Have any Project Runway winners ever done anything notable in the industry afterwards?

Christian Siriano big time...but that's about it.

Blasphemy.

Simpson looked like a wrestler. Poor gal. I'd never set foot in the same room as that fraulein.

I know...I am so disappointed too because I was routing for Mondo not Gretchen with her nasty attitude.
Jessica Simpson.....Wow! she has really packed on some weight, the woman is FAT.

I felt terrible for Jessica when Heidi suggested that they both wear the polka dot dress to the same event. I would never, in a million years, agree to wear the same body-skimming dress as Heidi Klum to the same event. The comparison would be unbearable. Jessica seemed to take it well. I like her. She isn't looking particularly fit and she did seem a little out of it and spoke strangely (like her jaws were wired closed), but I still liked her. A normal woman in an abnormal situation, it seems.

Gretchen's clothes looked like recession-ware. So drab, unexciting and sad. I've never been more horrified by a reality show outcome (and I watch too many of them, for sure.) I actually feel badly for her, since the public reaction to her collection was so negative I think winning the show might hurt her in the long run, whereas Mondo stands to gain more in terms of positive public exposure.
