Adult ADHD

Anonymous
Hello,

I have recently been diagnosed with ADHD and was prescribed Strattera. Does anybody have experience with this medication? I would like to avoid taking meds as much as possible and was wondering if therapy alone would help me.... I am seing a psychologist weekly now. Are there ADHD coaches in the DC area?
TIA!

I have adult ADD inattentive. Mine was diagnosed as a young child though but I was not medicated until I became an adult.

Honestly for true ADD/ADHD the medications really can make such a huge difference. I'm not discounting the value of therapy and coaching but I think these things in addition to medication really have the greatest benefit.

I'm not that familiar with the non-stimulant meds like Strattera. I am on long acting ritalin, Concerta which is extremely effective. If Strattera doesn't dramatically improve your symptoms you might want to consider a stimulant instead.

I forgot to mention that PBS is airing a documentary on ADD. You should check it out. I haven't seen it yet...it's waiting in my DVR.

Strattera is rarely tolerated too well due to GI adverse effects.
