Hooray! Going back to work, and the clothes FIT!

Anonymous
I have been a fattie the three months I have been home with my infant. This past month, I bit the bullet, and dieted/exercised like a fiend (and strangely it didn't affect supply.)

I don't have the money to buy new work clothes, so there was that pressure as well. Going back on Monday, and they fit. Even a little loose. Please don't think I am bragging. Just feels good to state it out loud that I pulled it off.

Brag away! I'm 1 year out and just starting to get back into my old clothes (which is nice since I haven't bought much). I'm still a few pounds out, but i've lost enough to get back into about half of my old clothes!

Good for you!

Glad the clothes fit - but a warning if you are still breastfeeding FT when you go back - I lost 2 pounds the first week back, and 2 pounds the second week, and then it tapered off to a pound every week or two, which by about 6 weeks back was way too much weight for me to lose (I've always been pretty small, frame, height, everything).

I had gained 26 pounds during pregnancy, lost all but the last 3 before returning to work (not really trying, just eating healthy, and some walking and light yoga, and of course breastfeeding) and then the weight just continued to fall off. I ate a lot too, so make sure you pack plenty of high-fuel snacks for pumping at work - greek yogurt with granola, avocadoes, string cheese, hummus and wheat wrap, and almonds and or bread with almond butter spread were/are my faves.

OP here. What about returning to work do you attribute the weight loss? I appreciate your comments, and am curious about how to stay healthy when going back.

I am not sure. I was an avid exerciser before pregnancy, but after, with working and all, cut back to walking (instead of running) and light weights/yoga. So I thought once I went back, I would probably not lose weight and I was shocked to be fighting to gain after a few weeks. I think EBF really did a number on me, and of course I might have been stressed. I was ready to go back to work, but it was I guess a shock to my system and maybe my body just responded by losing weight!

This is the OP. Thanks for the nice words. You never know if you are going to get support or a shit storm when you post.

For what it's worth, it took me a LONG TIME to lose the weight with my first child. I learned my lesson the second time around, and did what I could to take care of me and the baby this time.

There is an active post right now about how our bodies suffer after pregnancy. I know it, have been there. I say this with lots of respect for women now who have health problems . . .Sometimes you can turn some of it around. (Perhaps if the state of your closet and bank account don't leave you any option but to embrace seeking help from your doctor and work at it if you have to return to work.)

Again, I don't mean to minimize health problems and troublesome weight.

Just want to be a voice of encouragement if you are/were in my shoes. (Which are now a half size bigger, even if the rest of me is two sizes smaller )

Hope you posted this on facebook too, so you can make even more women feel shitty about themselves for needing more than 3 months to drop the baby weight.
