| I have been playing phone tag for weeks. |
| I called during business hours and scheduled it on the first phone call. Call the main number and talk to the receptionist. |
That should tell you something. |
| Maybe but the are suponed to be the bestc clinically and I just need a one time evaluation |
PP from above. Yes, their providers have very good credentials. Be careful with the intake though, and make sure that they are listening to your concerns. Also, before you pay, ask which tests they plan to administer and why. |
What are you looking to have evaluated? ADHD only? Dyslexia? Autism? Other? Yes Stixrud has a long track record of excellent testing and reports. But they're not the only show in town. You might be surprised at what you could find at different practices. |
Not the OP, but I’d be super interested in other recommendations (our focus is possible dyscalculia). |
The intake people don't know this or decide. The provider will make this decision after gathering all relevant information from you and may even change their mind depending on how the earlier assessments go. By all means, confirm what areas will be evaluated, but asking for which specific assessments at the intake stage isn't reasonable. |
PP you responded to. You just brought up one major issue with Stuxrud or any other large practice. They have one set of people who do the initial intake. They are absolutely part of the initial decision making process or at least notes they take. We had two kids evaluated at the same time and with very similar profiles. The only difference was a different intake person whom you don’t get to choose, and we ended up getting two different quotes for the evaluation. When we asked for the reason for a higher fee for one of the kids, they said they plan to administer additional tests for that child. They never answered what were the additional tests or why they thought those tests were necessary. Then a third person (of our choice) did the first day of testing, and a less experienced fourth person with lower credentials (this was a person of their choice) did the second and the longer day of testing. For some people this set up might work, but we would have preferred a single evaluator throughout. Just something to keep in mind if choosing to go with a larger practice. |
