According to Aspen, DCPS graduation requirements include:
Biology, one credit Science, one credit Lab science, two credits Does freshman biology count toward all three requirements? Or must "science" be something other than biology? If my kid takes freshman biology and sophomore chemistry, are all of these requirements met? Would chemistry also count as one of the 3.5 credits of electives? |
| Ask the guidance counselor. |

Biology is 1 credit. Chemistry is a lab science so that is another credit. Your student still needs to take 2 additional science classes after that and only 1 needs to be a lab science.
My child is a rising senior at a DCPS high school and I am also a MS teacher. (previously in HS) |
| Chemistry will not also count as an elective. There are some classes that can count for more than 1 thing, but I can tell you that the scenario you mentioned would not be one of them. |

| Thank you! This is much clearer than Aspen (and also makes Aspen sound incorrect? Wonder why there are separate requirements for Biology 1.0, Science 1.0 and Lab Science 2.0.) |
