Beach Week and Vibrio

Do you all worry about the risk of vibrio (the fresh eating bacteria) with teens going to the beach for beach week? Are beaches in the Northeast safer?

Thought it was more of a freshwater threat?

You’re probably thinking of the brain eating amoeba. This one likes salt.

No. The most dangerous part of beach week is the drive there and back.

Having had a kid go to beach week, that would be the least of my worries.

No. I went to beach week 2x. I don't think I went in the water. I would be more worried about the drive/to from and all of the drinking/drugs and s4x that will be going on and 2nd degree burns. I was a good kid. I have a friend whose sister was killed when the driver fell asleep on the way home. I would not be worried about that particular thing.

+1. Are any of them swimming? This would not be a concern.

I’m not too concerned, but of course teens go swimming at the beach.

I might send some liquid bandaid with mine and tell them to cover up any open cuts/shaving nicks/etc. Total overkill, for sure, but can’t hurt.
