Are some people prone to not retaining water or how do they maintain but not gain even with the weight of the child?
I’ve seen some recent message board and social media examples but from the outside I would have assumed they would have gained some weight, no one appears overly thin but average weight and belly size. |

| For me, it was being mildly overweight to start with, plus having a restricted diet in pregnancy due to gestational diabetes. I gained almost nothing during the pregnancy, and was down about 15 lbs total after baby was born. |

Because I was horribly sick pretty much my entire pregnancy. It sucked. I was actually down 20 pounds from my pre pregnancy weight at my 6 week postpartum appointment. Would not recommend.
Because my body spent more than a year thinking it was in starvation mode (my baby was ravenous and I exclusively breastfed--and I know I was not consuming nearly enough calories), it caused me serious metabolism problems once my baby switched to getting the majority of his calories from solids. I felt like I looked at food and gained 5 pounds. After so long of struggling to even hold my weight steady, suddenly it was packing on. My thyroid function has been destroyed, too. At my heaviest, I was nearly 50 pounds heavier than when I was 4 days before my baby was born. 70 pounds heavier than I was 6 weeks postpartum. I've managed to lose some of that weight, but not all of it. I'm no where close to that 6 week postpartum weight, and don't know if I'll ever reach it without resorting to a GLP-1. I'll be on thyroid meds the rest of my life. |

They're losing weight elsewhere, usually from something like hyperemesis or they are overweight to start and start exercising or similar.
The baby, placenta, extra blood volume, that has weight. It's possible not to.gain as much during pregnancy but gaining nothing or losing weight means it's coming from somewhere. Typical weight gain breakdown (the 20-30 range for someone at a healthy start weight, this is inviouslyna massive generalization): "Baby = 7.5 pounds Amniotic fluid = 2 pounds. Blood = 4 pounds Body fluids = 3 pounds Breasts = 2 pounds Fat, protein and other nutrients = 6 to 8 pounds Placenta = 1.5 pounds. Uterus = 2 pounds. I gained 15 and 11 lbs in my pregnancies andq lost it all immediately postpartum but 4 but now that I've 85% weaned but still have massive appetite I am up 10 lbs from when I gave birth....
So don't be envious |
( and to add I was 118 to begin with so 10 lbs is a lot...) |
