Rising 9th graders may only take courses in the following contents:
Honors Health Education (online)
Technology (online)
Algebra 2 or Honors Geometry (In-Person). These courses require the appropriate approvals from the middle school math content specialist. Rising 9th graders cannot take Algebra 1 for original credit.
Online Courses: All Courses will meet from 7:00 to 8:30 PM (Mon-Thurs)

Foundations of Computer Science (FOCS)
Foundations of Engineering and Technology (FOET)
Honors Health Education
Hon Health Education A and Hon Health Education B may not be taken in the same session.
Hon Health Education A and Hon Health B will be offered both Sessions.

I was looking at these links and thinking my kid could do the technology course(FOCS) online and maybe finish Algebra 2 in person.

Anyone whose kid has taken summer classes so they can start off on an advanced track in high school, was it worth it?

Only do one at a time. It’s a lot of work. Algebra 2 in six weeks would be very hard.

What about completing FOCS and also Honors Health in the summer to free up a spot for some other course in the school year?

My kid just did pre algebra in 8th. We talked about her doing health over the summer but online learning isnt great for her plus the additional work required we decided not to, oh, plus paying $365.
Next year she might do the in person geometry over the summer.
This is her last summer to just be a kid, we don’t need to rush through HS or be advanced.

FOCS & Health is more reasonable, but it really kills summer. My kid did FOCS before 9th and Health before 10th - didn't take too much time (still felt like summer) and was well worth clearing up time slots for more interesting/challenging courses later on. Don't do Algebra 2 in the summer - it's just too fast for students to be on solid ground for PreCalc.

DC completed the two tech courses over the summer, plus Health B. Different years, beginning summer after 8th. The courses are very intense, but it was the right decision for him to open space for an elective he cared about.

Can a rising 9th grader re-take Hon. Geometry for a better grade ? Curious b/c a few kids in my son's middle school (not title 1) are aiming to change their semester B to A.

Middle school grades, even if HS-level courses, are not factored into high school GPA unless they would improve the GPA.
