New Math 6 curriculum

Anonymous
According to the email - "Fairfax County Public Schools will adopt new mathematics instructional resources for Math 6 (middle school only) through Algebra 2 for the 2026-27 school year." - is my understanding correct that the AAP 5th students will NOT be doing the new math curriculum next year as they are still in elementary?

As an aside, any opinions/reviews about the new math curriculum?

Your understanding is correct. It is only for 6 in the middle schools (and yes, the teachers and central office folks in the math department have raised hell over this, the decision makers don’t care.)

Envision is largely prescribed curriculum like benchmark. Complaints are that they squeeze 4-5 concepts into a single lesson and it moves quickly but with no deeper rigor or higher order thinking.

We shall see if the county buys the workbooks and textbooks or makes schools find the funds individually (the latter is what I last heard was the plan, my principal said there is no budget for that). I suspect the county will buy the online subscription which is only 1/2 the product, and leave teachers to fill in gaps.

Well, mathspace at the A1/Geo/A2 level. Discovery Education for the 7/8th grade. I'm not sure M6 ever had anything.
