LGBTQIA Freshman - Is it important to explain sexuality to roommate?

Anonymous
DC, a rising freshman at a midwestern college, isn’t sure about their sexuality - could be gay, bi, fluid. They’ve articulated that to family, but doesn’t know what to do about prospective roommates and classmates at college. Any advice? Should they ask for LGBTQIA friendly housing?

Sure, why not ask for that? Assuming it even exists any longer.

At the schools we've looked at, they offer gender fluid housing, where you could get a roommate of any gender. I don't think that possibly being gay or lesbian needs to be disclosed to anyone -- it barely did in progressive spaces in the 1990s and thumbs have only gotten more accepting since then.

This, I went to a pretty average college in the 00s and it really wasn’t something that needed to be made into a thing.
