Generations getting dumber and dumber

Teachers vent about Gen Alpha being incapable of reading or following instructions. They collapse at the site of any challenge where they have to use their brain. One teacher said it took the entire class FIVE full periods to write 5 full paragraphs on an article they analyzed together.

We are absolutely doomed to an Idiocracy.

Almost certainly related to excessive phone use and not being forced to learn using pencil and paper from an early age. Our daughter is 6, and while she does struggle to focus sometimes, she doesn’t have tablet or iPhone access, goes to a tech-free school, and is multiple grades ahead in math. It can be done—just requires the right conditions.

It’s not phone use, it’s not being taught the foundation. My kids struggle on pencil and paper as I would and typing is easier.

That’s not why at all. Get your kid evaluated if they struggle to concentrate.

Get rid of tech and fad curriculums. Get back to basics from and educational standpoint and instill discipline from day one and most educational problems will be solved.

Halve the administrative overhead in these large school systems and teachers can be paid competitively while taxpayers keep more money.

Maybe so. But people are definitely less resilient now and I would say people were more self sufficient years back. Now everything is a push of a button

Not to mention the costs savings if the school districts doesn't have to buy ipads for every child in K-5th!

Also, it’s pretty ridiculous that schools essentially stop teaching by the end of May, and June turns into a few wasted weeks filled with unnecessary parties and events, usually accompanied by plenty of junk food. As a foreign national, I’m genuinely astounded by how few days are devoted to meaningful instruction in public schools (or maybe we just got unlucky with our kids’ school)

These kids are mostly in elementary school and three years of middle school currently. Most don’t have phones until middle school. Our schools never had iPads, they have Chromebooks in middle school. I’ll guess that every school has pencils and paper and supplement with iPads.

They know how to write. I had my daughter do the workbooks on tracing numbers and letters and other simple ones. Being left handed is not always comfortable because of spirals in the middle of notebooks and smudgy pens. I showed her that she needed to start from the last page so the metal spiral wasn’t in the way. Helpful stuff for her personally.
