World Cup and Being an immigrant... which team do you root for?

Your native country or USA? I've been in this country almost 50 years, but I find myself still rooting for my native country (which i have not gone back even once). Is that weird?

Native country and against USA.

Native country! Haven’t lived there for 27 years.

USA, of course.

I don’t think the World Cup is as big in the States. Root for your home country. I’ve seen hilarious social media videos where people say they thought as Americans that we were just having company over 😆

I root for the country of one set of grandparents so its not like I have a strong connection but I love that team and the culture has always cared about soccer more. I root for US if I go to a game but not against my team. If we play each other me and dh have worn separate jerseys and the same goes for my siblings and their spouses though they have other heritage teams too. We will root for some teams we don't even have family connections with if we like the players, including buying and sporting those jerseys.

I enjoy when a divided fan is in the stands and they show him take a jersey off to reveal the other team when the tide turns or when families are in opposite jerseys like a parent holding a baby decked out in another team.

It's sort of acceptable in US for soccer. Just look at the number of Mexican fans with Mexican flags in the stands when USA play against Mexico.

Same. Though I do go back from time to time. But I think it's because the World Cup isn't a big deal in the US, whereas it's a huge deal in my European country of origin. Whereas if it were basketball or something, I'd root for the US. The World Cup gets very tribal, and the US - for various reasons - doesn't particularly care. Plus, the US usually isn't competitive, whereas my original country has a chance.

Wearing some orange today.

I root for everyone. You are not special because someone else won a match.

Who ever you want to! I root for the USA. My birth country is never in it, and I would root for them too.

No. You can root for multiple teams.

If they play each other, you have a guaranteed win.

I work with a lot of Brazilians and I love their World Cup energy. It's like American Superbowl energy. All in good fun!

I will root for both - the likelihood of them playing each other is slim. USA and Norway

I root for everyone. You aren't special because some other bunch of people won a match.

My parents were immigrants, and I'm rooting for their home countries.
