| Do colleges steam clean dorm room carpets in the summer, or are they as filthy as hotel rooms? Has anyone done a quick steam clean the morning of move-in? |
| They usually have vacumes kids can sign out. No idea in steam cleaning. If your kid is living in a dorm, keep your standards low. They will be ok. |
|
Standards are low.
Unlikely they would steam clean every carpeted dorm room. If a tile or vinyl floor, likely it was wet mopped once over the summer. |
I know DD’s LAC does, because the hallway carpets often need to be replaced from scooter tracks, alcohol spills (both literally and from vomit), and general wear and tear, it’s one of those upkeep things that is cheaper to do every year |
Nothing you said indicates your kid’s lac steam cleans tbe carpets. |
| Haha maybe once every 10 years |
| Is it common that the individual rooms have carpet? |
| I would think carpets in rooms are super rare. |
| I think carpeting is uncommon, but we plan to get inexpensive area rugs to cover most of the space if DC’s dorm has carpet. |
I’m telling you they do. What do you mean? |
Make sure first that they are allowed, or your kid will spend the year having to hide them during announced room checks and otherwise dodging the RA. Older DCs school did not permit area rugs/carpets in carpeted rooms (I believe it was a fire code issue). If seen, the student had to remove them. |
No, usually it's a vinyl floor. |
| All my kid’s rooms have had vinyl. |
This will not be logistically possible, so forget about it. But are you sure there’s carpet? The biggest problem is the room getting incredibly dusty (huge dustballs) because there’s no airflow or room to move things around to clean. If you are particular, an air purifier might be a good idea. |
Parents should not say anything unless their kid requests it. |
