Does the summer heat damage winter coats, gloves, etc. if I keep these items in a sealed bin in my carport?
I don’t have a basement or garage but I have a large outdoor carport and carport attic. I want to put those winter items in bins for the summer. |

No, it's too hot here and fibers will start to break down.
We have bins in our carport with outside tools, etc... in the them, but not fabric. |
| I store clothes in the attic in the summer. It gets very hot but I have never noticed any issues. I keep things for many years. |
| I also store clothing in bins in my attic, which is the hottest but also the driest part of my house. Around here I would worry more about humidity than temperature if I was storing clothing in a carport |
| Never in plastic. Never in enclosed plastic. Never ever. And certainly, temperature matters!! |
Oops! I am 57 with not much cliset space. Not changing now despite your severe warnings. |
+1 |
| No, because I don’t have such a ridiculous amount of clothes that I need to package things up every 6 months. |
| Depends on fabrics. Synthetics are probably fine. Be aware of moths and carpet beetles. Maybe mice. |
| Some dry cleaners will store your winter clothes. I'm assuming woolens? |
Work clothes, weekend clothes, gym clothes, PJs, sweaters. Takes up more space then I have. |
| We store all our ski clothes in the attic from April to December. I also have a couple of hanging bags in the attic for excess seasonal clothing. |
| Have an exterminator check your carport for mouse droppings and nests before you start storing things there. The DC area has so many mice! |
Agree |
| They just stay in my closet lol. |
