People who mix business and politics

Anonymous
I run into a lot of people who talk about their political beliefs during networking or working on business deals lately. I’m curious how others handle this? Do you just go along with whatever the person is saying?
Anonymous
I run into no one doing this. I’d ignore/change the subject.

Literally more than half of the people in this area do this regularly. It's fairly safe to assume that if they aren't making political remarks then the person is conservative or moderate. Those on the left make open political comments all the time.

Not in my experience. Disagree strongly that anyone not advocating is not liberal. A lot of people keep the two topics separate.

OP here. I get this from liberals and conservatives and would like advice on how to handle?

I get this regularly, too. I don’t talk politics at work so I don’t respond/engage. Usually someone else who agrees with the person does chime in. Eventually someone gets us back on track with what we’re actually supposed to be doing.

Smile, nod, change the subject as deftly as you can. The less said, the better.

At my previous employer, everyone assumed you were 100% liberal. It was not okay to hold different views. I kept my head down and my mouth shut.

At my current employer, no one talks politics at all. No one assumes you hold one view or another. I have no idea what my colleague’s politics are, and I love that. I do know what college football team they each follow, and they are very vocal about that, but that works for me.

If you’re liberal, it’s fine.

If you’re not, then it’s totally a breach of decorum.

It’s good to be king.

Depends on the industry. Plenty of Republicans and conservatives at my job and in my field, and they talk openly about it. In fact, I just got to listen to a client explain to me how anyone complaining about the UFC fight has TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome).

Well, it’s not really Democrats vs Republicans. It’s American patriots versus an alliance of billionaires, authoritarians, fascists, grifters, criminals and Christian Nationalists.

It’s not a difficult choice.

Yikes. I’d have to be heavily medicated to get through the job all day to not pop off if someone said that.

How is that ok for someone to say that in a business or professional relationship. So divisive.

You are very intellectually dishonest.

The powerful left is just as bad as the powerful right. All of the slurs you used could be applied to the left, just change the religion.
