WSJ Article: Students Are Using a ‘Backdoor’ to Attend Their Dream Schools

Smart move! Nothing to be ashamed about

Are these really "dream schools" though?

I could not read the article because it is behind a paywall. Can you gift a link?

I could see the UF blurb. Not the whole article. Are there any schools mentioned for kids who get better than 1300 on the SAT?

Interesting article. Schools are using these programs as money grabs and kids seem to be happy with the opportunity. The Northeasternification of higher education, but if it's working to give access to kids who might not otherwise have these opportunities, it seems like a win-win.

TLDR; kids who don’t get accepted to big flagships are just enrolling in online program, moving near campus and doing everything else like regular undergrads. Schools make money, kids are happy.

It’s pretty smart, honestly.

No difference with regular UF ... most freshman classes are online anyway

What a snob.

Yeah, no.
None of these colleges are worth going to, certainly not worth pretending to go to.

This has been happening at UT Austin for decades.

This is so cringe 😬. But if the kids are happy, then let them be.

Don’t kids have to have 1500+ SAT to get into UF oos from the DMV area anyway?

UF is on par with the best publics for undergraduate, including UVA, Michigan, Purdue, UIUC and has surpassed every UC except for maybe Berkeley and UCLA. Even those latter two with how fast and how far their undergraduate students have slipped, UF is a better choice.
